Please burn your candle responsibly. We’ve done everything on our end to ensure the candle is safe for you to use, however, the care and safety ultimately rests in your hands.

To ensure you get the best and safest experience from your candle, please follow these instructions:

  • Keep all lit candles out of the reach of children and pets.
  • Never burn a candle on or near anything that can catch fire, such as furniture, curtains, bedding, carpets, books, paper, flammable decorations, etc.
  • Never leave a burning candle unattended.
  • Don’t burn a candle for more than 4 hours, the glassware can get hot!
  • Ensure the candle is placed on a stable, heat-resistant surface. This can help prevent heat damage to underlying surfaces and help prevent glass containers from breaking.
  • Do not use if the glass is cracked, chipped or broken.
  • Make sure a candle is completely extinguished and the wick ember is no longer glowing before leaving the room.
  • Never introduce liquids or foreign objects into your candle and keep it free of any wick trimmings, matches and any flammable materials.
  • Do not burn a candle all the way down. For a margin of safety, it’s advised to discontinue burning a candle when 1 cm (0.30 inches) wax remains in a container.
  • Don’t allow water or moisture to mix with the hot wax, this can cause splattering and popping of the wax.

  • Trim the wick to 0.5cm (0.2 inches) every time you light your candle.
  • If your wick is longer than 0.5cms or has ‘mushroomed’, it tends to create smoke causing black soot to form on the sides of your jar and burn faster reducing the expected burn time for that sized candle.
  • Also, be sure to not over trim the wick as this will result in the flame burning too small and the melt pool will not reach the edges of the container causing a ‘tunnel’ effect.

  • Make sure you’re planning to burn them for at least 2-3 hours at a time to ensure the melted wax reaches the edges of the glass.
  • If you blow out a candle mid-way through its burn across the surface, the candle is more likely to burn down from where you last left it creating a tunnel which means you lose the hours worth of burn time in wax around the edges.

  • Burning a candle in a drafty area can cause uneven burning, a smoky flame and cause your candle to burn faster.
  • If you notice the flame of the candle is flickering enthusiastically in any direction other than straight up then there may be a draft.
  • Prevent drafts by keeping burning candles away from heating, air-conditioning vents and open windows.

  • To blow out a candle, a candle snuffer works best.
  • If you don’t have one you can blow out the candle by placing an index finger in front of the flame and blowing gently. This causes the air to surround the flame and reduces the splattering of hot wax from the wax pool.
  • Alternatively, dip the wick in the hot wax with a wax dipper to extinguish the flame and then set the wick upright and center again ready for the next burn.

  • If wax has spilled on the carpet, the best way to remove it is with paper towels and a hot iron. Place a paper towel over the spill. Place a heated iron over the paper towel. The heat from the iron will cause the wax to melt and be absorbed into the paper towel. You may need to do this more than once depending on the amount of wax spilled.

  • Our waxes have a low melting point so if your candle is sitting on the windowsill or in a warm place, it's not unusual to find the wax becoming a little 'sweaty'. This is caused by minor oil separation from the wax (this is also because we put the maximum amount of fragrance into a candle). If this happens, not to worry, it all goes back to normal when you light it again.

  • You can remove dust and fingerprints from a candle by gently rubbing the surface with a piece of nylon or a dry/damp soft cloth or a paper towel.
  • If soot forms on the inside of the glass, extinguish the candle, cool the wax, then wipe the glass with a clean cloth.
  • Always store your candles in a cool, dark and dry place away from direct sunlight and temperatures over 55 degrees C (130 degrees F).
  • If you are burning more than one candle in the same area, place them at least 10 cms (3 inches) apart from one another.
  • When not in use, it's good to keep your candle covered to avoid dust build-up.

Our brand at a glance

alchimiste d'oud sauvage brand creates uniquely designed candles vessels, wax hurricane lanterns, and designs for the home that are one-of-a-kind works of art, crafted with obsessive attention to details. Each piece has been created with an innate passion for the arts, using techniques that have been passed down through generations. Our philosophy is to construct everything manually, without the help of machines or automated processes. This makes each object a unique and incomparable piece, which gives it an extremely special character. Our candles have been hand-poured one by one in small batches in the northeast of Spain, near the Mediterranean, using sophisticated blends of precious ouds, wood resinoids, concretes and absolutes, essences and fragrance oils, organic cotton and hemp wicks, wood wicks from the eucalyptus tree, a premium blend of coconut and soy wax and, cruelty-free virgin beeswax, which we acquire directly from Valencian beekeepers. Our signature candle vessels are gilded with raw minerals, stones, and crystals from Morocco and Italy.
